As a relationship therapist, my goal is to help people in couples, families, friendships, and other relationships to improve their connection by understanding each other better. I believe the best way to do this is to teach people to communicate more effectively, so they can then teach others how they want to be treated, supported, and loved. As author and activist bell hooks has pointed out, “Schools for love do not exist. Everyone assumes that we will know how to love instinctively.” I consider the therapy room to be a practice space, where people can learn and try new ways of navigating love, communication, and conflict, with the therapist as a guide.

I see the client/therapist relationship as collaborative, and I encourage everyone in the room to bring their own unique expertise, skills, and strengths so we can work as a team. In addition to working with folks in all types of relationships, I work with individual clients who think my approach might help them better understand themselves and others. I believe identity and life experience greatly influence relationship habits, and hope to openly discuss and affirm those with my clients during the course of therapy.
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I’m trained to understand people within the context of their most important and impactful relationships, as well as the greater context of culture and society. My conceptualization of relationships is primarily informed by family systems theory, attachment theory, pragmatic/experiential couples therapy, and of course, what I’ve learned from my clients, students, friends, and loved ones.
My office is located on the 2nd floor of Beverly Therapists.
