Kanosha Leonard
LCPC, Doctoral Candidate
You may be seeking therapy because of challenging circumstances which may rock your sense of fairness, resilience and faith. It’s been through my own path that I have learned the most. My life journey has taught me the importance of embracing pain, identifying lessons and moving beyond turmoil. My oh-so-difficult hardships gave me the opportunity to learn that with patience, hard work and prayer: All things can shift. These experiences guide me while I am counseling clients, educating students and advocating for justice. In our therapeutic relationship and joint efforts: ideas will be challenged, thoughts will shift, behaviors will alter, and
goals will be met.
I am currently completing my doctoral degree of Counselor Education and Supervision at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, though my most formative education came through experience. A tumultuous time in my academic program gave rise to my colleagues and I publishing an article highlighting the experience of African American women in academia. And as a mother of a young lady with Sickle Cell Disease, I have become a strong advocate for health equity, increased funding and awareness for this rare blood disease.
As I answered the calling on my life to become a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, I use Cognitive Behavioral and Constructivist theories in the building of effective therapeutic relationships. I am trauma-informed and LGBTQ affirming. I work with adolescents, adults, couples, and families with a wide range of presenting needs, including anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, conflict resolution, reconciliation and more. I would be honored to travel alongside you on your life journey as you seek clarity on your calling, blessings, as well as securing a sense of homeostasis and life balance.
